MoneySmart latest research: of financial advice for people in Singapore and Hong Kong

A new MoneySmart survey found that more than half of adults car owner data in Hong Kong and Singapore (52%) use social media as their main source of financial advice, with YouTube being the most popular platform.
The study explored the role social media plays in respondents’ financial decisions, particularly regarding investing, saving and laundering.
Nearly three in five respondents (63%) now seek investment advice on social media, indicating that social media is playing an increasingly important role in influencing investment decisions.
HONG KONG, Jan. 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- MoneySmart, a personal financial product comparison platform, released its latest survey report showing that social media has become a major source of financial information, influencing important decisions on investment, savings and spending habits.

The study, which surveyed 2,000 adults in Hong Kong and Singapore, found that more than half (52%) now rely on social media as their main source of financial advice, surpassing traditional channels such as family and friends, financial advisors and personal finance books. Social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and Facebook have become the most popular platforms for getting financial advice.
