STRATEGIC PLANNING… A VALUES APPROACH

Creating and implementing a Strategic Plan can seem to be a daunting task to many people. However, whether an educational enterprise, small business, or large multi-national corporation, the process can provide the ultimate benefits of assisting an organization to adapt to a changing phone number list environment, and of getting numerous individuals (stakeholders) ‘on board’ with the organization’s goals and objectives.
There are about as many variations on how to develop a strategic plan as there are strategic planners. Some common elements you will hear contained in a plan include:
Please picture the steps above in a hierarchical pyramid. VALUES at the apex and TACTICS at the base.
Many people think of planning more in terms of a ‘to do’ list of tasks that need to be accomplished. A strategic plan emanates from the stakeholder’s VALUES and progresses through a series of logical, linear steps to produce observable, measurable, actionable TACTICS to be implemented. It can also be useful in identifying what will NOT be done (due to time, resource constraints, etc.).

IF YOU ARE FEELING AMBITIOUS, please attempt to follow this process through the entire sequence. Start by citing a specific VALUE. Then draft a VISION statement that encompasses that value. Next draft a MISSION statement for the organization based upon that vision. And then identify the GOALS, STRATEGIES and TACTICS/ACTION PLANS that would lead to the accomplishment of the mission which supported your vision and values.
