In Russia, the agency worked from 1992 to 2012 , cooperating with both government agencies and non-governmental organizations. During this time, USAID financed 57 Russian organizations, with the total amount of projects amounting to about $2.7 billion. About 60% of this was spent on developing democracy and protecting human rights, the rest on programs to combat HIV and tuberculosis, protect mothers and children, and help the disabled.

In September 2012, USAID activities in Russia were terminated by decision of the Russian government due to the lack of need for assistance from abroad. At that time, the official representative of the Russian el salvador mobile database Foreign Ministry, Alexander Lukashevich, commented on USAID activities in Russia as follows: “The nature of the work of the agency’s representatives in our country did not always correspond to the stated goals of promoting the

development of bilateral humanitarian cooperation. We are talking about attempts to influence political processes through the distribution of grants, including elections at various levels and civil society institutions. Serious questions were raised by the agency’s activity in Russian regions, especially in the North Caucasus.”

On September 18, 2012, USAID announced the closure of its activities in Russia.
