In essence and the ensuing consequences, there are two types of overdraft:
Authorized - initiated by the client and confirmed by the bank. If the issuer of the bank card allows its owner to "go into the minus", then the option can be activated. In this case, the bank specifies in advance the conditions under which it is provided. Limits can be set for the amount and term. The conditions may also provide for a commission for using borrowed funds.
Technical – occurs without the initiative of the client and the bank. Most often, due to an error. In this case, the client does not intend to spend more money than is on his debit card, and the overdraft option itself may be absent in principle.
The vast majority of situations with a minus on debit cards are northeast mobile number database due to an authorized overdraft. Sometimes it is activated and forgotten about. Therefore, the right decision when detecting a negative balance is to contact the bank's support service. Specialists will check the information and inform you if you have an overdraft connected.
If you have not activated overdraft and the support service has confirmed this information, then it is worth considering other reasons for the negative balance.
It should be noted that several years ago, bank clients encountered such situations when their accounts were seized by bailiffs. However, after the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation ruled that it was impossible to write off amounts exceeding the existing balance from accounts, the number of such situations was reduced to zero. Nevertheless, it would not be a bad idea to check the information. Especially if you know about open enforcement proceedings.
Why else might a minus appear if you don’t have an overdraft enabled:
Delays in the execution of a transaction are exceptional situations that occur extremely rarely. In such cases, payments and transfers may "hang", as a result of which money is not debited from the account. The owner of a debit card mistakenly focuses on the visible balance and continues to spend money. As a result, a minus appears after the transaction.
Exchange rate differences – sometimes cause a negative balance on multi-currency accounts. If its owner makes a purchase in foreign currency, then when withdrawing money outside of Russia, the amount may be recalculated at a rate that differs from the one initially offered by the bank. Therefore, there may not be enough rubles in the account to purchase the required amount of currency. The result is a negative balance.
