PJSC Rostelecom is exploring the possibility of entering the digital services market for e-commerce, as well as expanding its presence in fintech, tourism and online education, the company's First Vice President and Financial Director Sergei Anokhin told journalists.
“We are looking at fintech, e-commerce,” Anoshin said on Monday on the sidelines of the Russian Internet Forum 2024 (RIF).
"Of course, we won't go china whatsapp resource and create another Ozon. But there are niches in this industry where there is demand for digital solutions - both for sellers and buyers. And we see from the experience of other countries that this is a good market, which the marketplaces themselves often fail to reach, this is not their focus, but the market needs it," added Rostelecom's CFO.
According to him, the company is also interested in such areas as tourism and education. The company already has assets in the tourism sector (the Corteos Platform platform for automating business tourism), fintech (the developer of the multi-bank platform "Fazum", the developer of anti-fraud systems Fuzzy Logic Labs), online education (the Rostelecom.Lyceum platform).
"We have already entered some of the areas. We are currently working on strengthening our offers, developing them. In some places we are discussing this with additional companies. In some places we have gone in-house - creating certain functionality, certain solutions, gathering the best competencies from the market, who know what needs to be done, how and in what there will be demand from clients," the top manager noted.
He noted that despite the fact that Rostelecom has its own developments that “stem” from its basic products, in a number of areas the company sees “specific directions, specific solutions that can be called deep industry specialization.”
"For example, in agriculture, in the tourism business, in the hotel industry - they have their own applied solutions. And they themselves are on the market, but sometimes we see the practice that by combining and integrating them, you create additional value for the client, you can provide a more connected landscape. So we are looking, first of all, for such a path. That is, we probably do not have the task of simply buying a company, figuratively speaking - buying revenue. It is important for us to create a new value, with which we will be interesting to the market," said the first vice president of Rostelecom.
According to him, Rostelecom is considering “a whole range” of business areas.
"We have a "funnel" of companies in each of the areas with which we are discussing. We do not limit ourselves in any strict way. We look everywhere to see where there is a need for digital services and whether there is a right to success and explanations for us to enter," concluded Anoshin.
Earlier, he stated that Rostelecom’s plans included entering new digital niches.
