New fine for Google in France . The internet giant has been fined €500 million by the country's Competition Authority for "failing to comply with several precautionary measures" issued in April 2020 to negotiate with news publishers an agreement on remuneration for the use of their content.
for abuse of a dominant position in online advertising , which was set at 220 million euros . In addition, at the end of the year the National Commission for Information Technology and Civil Liberties (CNIL) fined Google 100 million euros .

The French Competition Authority has also ordered Google to submit an oman number data offer of remuneration for current uses of content to publishers and news agencies within two months and to provide them with the information necessary for the evaluation of the proposal. If Google fails to do so, it could face fines of up to €900,000 per day of delay .

"When the Authority imposes precautionary measures on companies, they are obliged to apply them scrupulously , respecting both their letter and spirit. In this case, unfortunately, that was not the case," said Isabelle de Silva , president of the Authority, which discovered, after an in-depth investigation, that Google had not complied with several of these measures.

"The €500 million fine takes into account the exceptional gravity of the infringements observed and the fact that Google's behaviour has led to a further delay in the correct application of the law on related rights," adds de Silva, who also states that "Google's negotiations with publishers and press agencies cannot be considered to have been carried out in good faith."

According to Expansión , Google has expressed in a statement that they are “very disappointed” with France’s decision and claim to have acted in good faith throughout the process. “ The sanction does not take into account either our efforts to reach an agreement, or the reality of how news works on our platforms . To date, Google is the only company that has announced agreements on related rights. In addition, we are about to finalize an agreement with the AFP (Agence France Presse) that includes a global licensing agreement, as well as the payment of related rights for its press publications,” says Google.
