effective. During this time, the register of domestic software has expanded by more than 60% and includes at least 21,000 products from almost 8,000 companies.
We hear more and more often about large projects for the implementation of Russian solutions, and leaders have emerged among their manufacturers. Following switzerland whatsapp resourcethe results of the conference "Digital Industry of Industrial Russia" (CIPR), the head of the IT infrastructure department of K2Tech Alexey Zotov shared with Forbes his observations of the market development and the opinions of key players
Unfriendly impulse
and inevitability of import substitution. Just a year ago, players were hoping for the return of Western vendors and did not give up trying to continue using familiar solutions. However, today's reality paints a completely different picture.
Since the beginning of 2024, Western software manufacturers (Veeam, Microsoft, Amazon and others) have been cutting off access to their services for corporate clients from Russia. A striking example is Microsoft, which has cut off subscriptions to its cloud services for half of Russian organizations in two weeks since mid-May. Moreover, mergers and acquisitions are taking place on the global market, which also affect familiar products. For example, as happened with VMware and Broadcom: after their merger, perpetual licenses were canceled, discounts were eliminated, and all products were transferred to a subscription scheme. All this cannot but generate mistrust on the part of domestic companies towards foreign vendors. In addition, legislative initiatives and regulatory requirements contribute to the emergence of the task of import substitution as a top priority.
However, it cannot be said that the need to replace foreign IT products took the market by surprise. In fact, the situation is heterogeneous: some have not even started yet, some for one reason or another "jumped in headlong", implemented the solution and then adapted, and some have already developed an import substitution strategy since 2014 and are now almost at the finish line. In fact, the leaders in the transition have become the largest representatives of the energy and oil and gas industries and, of course, state-owned companies - at the moment, their import substitution status varies at a level of more than 70%. And not only in terms of application software, but also in terms of basic infrastructure software: operating systems, DBMS, virtualization systems, monitoring, backup.
The Grace of Integration
Recently, there has been an opinion that until 2022, system integrators played a significant role in building IT infrastructures of Russian companies. And over the past two years, their contribution has become less noticeable compared to manufacturers of domestic solutions and their customers. Indeed, against the backdrop of a growing demand for import substitution in the information field, much more attention has been paid to vendors. Paradoxically, but it is a fact: based on our own practice, we are recording a real boom in IT consulting. Representatives of large companies are increasingly interested in a comprehensive approach to import substitution: what solutions to switch to, how to build a roadmap, how new solutions will work with the current infrastructure, how to transfer already accumulated data, etc. Over the past year, we have encountered hundreds of such requests.
Now, it seems, no one has any doubts about the necessity
