Depending on the taste for wine, we can segment the population of legal drinking age into these 3 groups:

People who like wine, who enjoy it regularly and taste it whenever they can.
People who don't like wine.
People who think they don't like wine because they once tried a bad wine or a "wine blend" that they didn't like, and they haven't given it another chance.
(* NOTE) At Flat 101 we work with a few wine lovers and from time to time we organize tastings in the office, at the end of the work day. Some of them have been attended by colleagues who would be in the group “(3) People who think they don’t like wine”. I quote my colleague Michel, who after a wine and crémant de Bourgogne tasting said: “I thought I didn’t like wine… but in this tasting I realized that what I didn’t like was bad wine…” . If you think you might be in this group (3), we encourage you to give wine a chance, maybe it will surprise you after trying it again.
All this means that consumption per person in Spain is below 30L/year, which is just over 3 bottles/person per month, a very low figure.
In this scenario, our country's wine cellars had two options:
Export.
Increase wine sales in Spain.
Let's go with them.
1.- Export
Exporting is the option that the vast majority of wineries have had to resort to.
Spanish wine is highly appreciated throughout the world, especially since the critic Robert Parker made Spanish Garnacha fashionable worldwide and almost all of the wineries in our country have had to focus on internationalisation.
The problem with our exports is that we know how to make very good wine… but we don’t know how to sell it as well.
In 2019 we were the world's second largest wine exporter in volume, but not in value. In other words, we export a lot of wine but at low prices because a large amount of the wine we export from our country comes in bulk, meaning that the value of exports is low and the brand value of the exporters (wineries) is zero, since when a wine is sold in a truck tanker, the brand has no impact.
