Changing a company name: why, when and how to do it

Post by mstajminakter12 »

This week we had the experience of discussing the name change of the startup we had started a few months ago: Fractional CMO. We realized with the team that one of the most important ICPs was worried about the name and even thought it sounded like competition. If you are a Fractional CMO, are you going to replace me? This scares them, especially in times where Artificial Intelligence seems to be going all over the place.

Here I share with you the change process that we did with Julian, Koller, Valen, Lucho and Tomi.

I find it interesting, especially when we are in the early stages, that it is very important to validate the name with the market.

Changing a company name: Why is it important?
Changing a company's name is critical to branding and market perception. A well-designed name can reinforce a brand's identity and establish a deeper connection with consumers. For example, according to Cracked , companies saudi arabia mobile number details like Google and Facebook have transformed their names to better align with their mission and vision.

The process of changing your name can be complex, but it is a necessary step for growth. Sometimes, the market demands adaptations that may seem bold. However, as we discussed in our article on growth aspects , these choices are crucial to achieving long-term success.

The experience of changing the name
Rebranding was a process that required some thought. Initially, we opted for Fractional CMO, a name that seemed appropriate. However, after listening to the market, we realized that it did not capture our value proposition. The confusion that this title generated led us to look for an alternative that was more in line with our mission. After a thorough analysis, we chose the name CMO helper .

The name transformation was an inclusive and participatory process. All team members played an active role, which strengthened the sense of belonging. Collaboration became crucial in decision-making, as we highlighted in our article on decision-making . This strategy not only generated enthusiasm among the team, but also helped align everyone with the new vision of the organization.
